The world is on the brink. Wars are raging across multiple continents. Nations are threatening nuclear strikes. Political violence is escalating. People are dying in combat zones and on city streets alike. Military analysts are openly using the phrase “World War 3.” This is not fear-mongering. This is reality.
Jesus told us plainly: “And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom” (Matthew 24:6-7, NKJV). We are watching these words come to pass in real time. But the fact that Jesus prophesied it does not mean we sit back and watch it unfold in silence.
We pray. That’s what we do at Awakening Prayer Hubs, and beyond praying for our cities, that’s our focus for this month. Join us at www.awakeningprayerhubs.com.
Paul did not make intercession optional. He made it the first order of business. “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence” (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Notice “first of all.” Not second. Not when we get around to it. First.
That command was written under the Roman Empire. Christians were being persecuted. Political corruption was rampant. Violence was normalized. Sound familiar? The conditions have not changed. Neither has the assignment.
Violence in the Streets, War on the World Stage
A spirit of violence is gripping the earth. It is not contained to battlefields overseas. It is erupting in our cities. People are gunned down on sidewalks. Political leaders are targeted. Civilians are caught in crossfire they never signed up for. Satan is a murderer from the beginning (John 8:44), and he is working overtime to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10).
Behind every war and every act of violence there is a spiritual force at work. Paul wrote, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12). You cannot solve a spiritual problem with a political solution. Ceasefire agreements break. Peace treaties collapse. UN resolutions gather dust.
But prayer moves the hand of God.
Peace Comes Through Righteousness
Isaiah 32:17 says, “And the work of righteousness will be peace, and the effect of righteousness, quietness and assurance forever.” When we pray for world peace, we are not praying for diplomats to shake hands on camera. We are praying for the righteousness of God to invade the hearts of leaders and nations. Righteousness is what produces peace. Without it, every peace deal is temporary.
Proverbs 14:34 says, “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.” Sin brought us to the brink of World War 3. Righteousness is the only thing that will pull us back.
The Intercessor God Is Looking For
God told Ezekiel, “So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one” (Ezekiel 22:30).
God searched for one intercessor and found nobody. That cannot be the testimony of this generation. Not with Awakening Prayer Hubs spanning nearly every nation of the world. Not with intercessors who understand the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds (2 Corinthians 10:4).
People are dying. Nations are teetering. The threat of global war is real. And God has positioned you in the earth for such a time as this.
“The Lord will give strength to His people; the Lord will bless His people with peace” (Psalm 29:11, NKJV).
Rise up, intercessor. Pray for world peace like lives depend on it. They do.
