The U.S. locks up more people per capital than any other nation, at the staggering rate of 573 per 100,000 residents, according to PrisonPolicy.org. All told, there are 1.9 million people in prison in America alone.
However, that pales in comparison to the worldwide figures. According to World Prison Brief, there are more than 11.5 million people incarcerated in the nations of the earth. That number may be higher, and some of them are innocent.
While the debate on injustice and whether or not nonviolent drug offenders should be incarcerated rages on, the number of prisoners keep increasing. The best solution to the problem is prayer. Prayer brings wisdom and solutions. Prayer brings salvation and revival.
Ultimately, if we had mass salvations, great awakenings and transforming revival in the earth—and in the prisons—we’d see fewer prisoners. And we’d see fewer prisoners released only to return to prison for yet another term. Prayer moves the hand that moves the world. Prayer changes things.
At Awakening Prayer Hubs, we believe jails and prisons are a great harvest field for souls—one of the greatest. We believe prayers can reach through the walls of the prison to drive salvation, undergirding the work of prison ministries who visit inmates behind bars, agreeing with the families of inmates, and setting the stage for supernatural manifestations of God’s presence in the prisons.

Prayers for Prison Revival
Pray for revival to break out in prisons and jails, from the inmates to the prison guards and administrators, with a fresh and mighty wind of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:1-4; John 1:12-13; John 6:44; Luke 19:10).
Pray for spontaneous prayer and worship to break out in the prisons so others may see the goodness of God in the land of the living and worship the one and true living God (see Acts 16).
Pray for a revival of faith in God and miracles, signs, and wonders to break out in the jail and prisons as it did when Paul and Silas prayed and worshiped at midnight in the prison (see Acts 16).
Pray for new tongues to spring forth in the prisons and bring Holy Ghost revelation (see Mark 16:17-18).
Pray for those who are brokenhearted in prisons to receive deliverance and healing from those called by God to minister the word and deliver God’s people (Luke 4:18).
Pray for the casting out of demons to be commonplace in the prisons and that deliverance ministers have open doors in the prisons to minister to the people (see Mark 16:17-18).
Pray for miracles, signs, and wonders to abound in the prisons and be heard about all over the world as a testimony to Jesus Christ (see Mark 16:17-18).
Prayers for Salvation
Pray the word of the Lord may run swiftly and be glorified in the prisons and jails (2 Thessalonians 3:1).
Pray the Father would encounter the lost prisoners with His love (Romans 5:8). Pray those incarcerated who encounter the heart of the Father would know their times are in His hands (Psalm 31:15).
Pray the Lord would bend the will of the unbelieving prisoners’ hearts towards Him, and that the scales would fall from their eyes (2 Peter 3:9; Acts 9:18).
Pray the Lord would remove the hearts of stone of the incarcerated and give them hearts of flesh (Ezekiel 36:26).
Pray those in the prisons and jails will know the truth and the truth will set them free (John 8:32).
Pray for the lost souls in prison to receive refuge in the one and true living God and accept Christ as their Savior. Pray for their eyes to be opened to see and their ears opened to hear the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ (see Ephesians 1:18).
Pray for those in prison to call on the name of the Lord so they may be saved (see Romans 10:13).
Pray for a great harvest come out of the prisons and jails. Pray each and every prisoner be touched by you Holy Spirit drawing them to Jesus (John 6:37, John 16:13-14).
Prayers for Prison Ministries & Workers
Pray that ministries going into the prisons continue to have open doors and resources to disciple the people. May they be able to reach them at the basic levels by providing them with gifts and Bibles (Mark 16:15; Matthew 25:35-36).
Pray for those ministering the Gospel to speak forth with boldness and an uncompromised gospel (see Ephesians 6:19-20).
Pray prison ministries are sent forth with a rhema word and fire of the Holy Spirit to reach the lost (Luke 10:2; Matthew 4:4; Zechariah 4:6).
Pray that ministries to go into the prisons that will share the Good News accurately especially those with the prophetic gifts to call out the gold in those behind bars (2 Peter 1:19-21; Luke 9:2).
Pray for deliverance ministries to grow in the prisons under God’s direction (Psalm 47:3).
Pray for preachers to go forth and teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the prisons to free the captives from bondage and heal the brokenhearted as proclaimed by the Prophet Isaiah (see Isaiah 61:1-2).
Pray ministries that will reflect the Father heart of God as many prisoners have lacked a true father (Psalm 65:5-6; 1 John 3:1-2).
Pray for those working in the prison system, from judges, to correction officers, to chaplains, to carry God’s heart for souls. Let those that are corrupt or operating criminally be exposed and replaced with upstanding people (1 Samuel 13:14, 1 John 3:18; Leviticus 26:13).
Pray the believers of Christ behind bars be protected by angels as they proclaim your word boldly resulting in great fruit of salvations, signs and wonders (Mark 16:20; Acts 14:3).
Prayers for Prisoner Reentry
Pray prisoners and those released are established; that they are guarded from the evil one (2 Thessalonians 3:6)
Pray what the enemy meant for evil in their lives and situations that you will use for good. We declare countless numbers of the prisoners will give you glory with their lives, Jesus (Gen 50:20; Jeremiah 29:11).
Pray God’s original design for them to come forth and to receive restoration to their hearts and minds to wholeness only available through knowing you, Lord (James 1:18; Psalm 32:8; Isaiah 61:1).
Pray new ideas and support systems emerge that will help the prisoners to connect with Godly mentors and the body of Christ (Galatians 6:2; Exodus 9:16; 1 Corinthians 12:12).
Decree the glory of God will be made manifest in the prisons and jails throughout the nations of the earth. Amen.
