21 Prayers Against a Food Crisis in the Nations

Reports of potential famine abound. News media is repeatedly sounding the alarm that the war in Ukraine if fueling a global food crisis.

Leaders from the G-7, which includes the U.S., Japan, Canada, the UK, France, Germany and Italy, as well as the European Union, pledged to do everything they can to address the issue, as well as provide Ukraine with a “sustainable food supply” in this crisis.

Throughout the pages of the Bible we see famines, so this should come as no surprise. Jesus said in Matthew 24:5-8, “For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.”

Through the pages of the Bible, we see God give strategies for surviving through a famine. God gave Pharaoh a dream of seven years of abundance followed by seven years of famine, then gave Joseph the interpretation and a wise strategy to save the world.

So, how do we pray:

Pray God would provide what we need and sustain us from day to day; that He would give us this day our daily bread (Matthew 6:11).

Pray for awakening and transforming revival amidst the food crisis; that the harvesters would know that Jesus is the bread of life and whoever comes to Him would never hunger or thirst (John 6:35) as they set out to win souls.

Pray eyes of the people would be opened in knowing that neither distress nor famine would be able to separate them from the love of God in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:35).

Declare supernatural divine provision over the church and nations in that resources would be provided to assist individuals and communities in need of food (James 2:15-17)

Pray for His people and nations to have the skill, gift, and discipline of managing and distributing resources wisely.

Decree the Lord will supply all our needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19).

Pray for miracles of multiplication where necessary (John 6:1-15; 2 Kings 4:42-44).

Pray the Lord will answer those in need of food; that He will not forsake them (Isaiah 41:17).

Decree and declare the Lord is bringing His people into a good land without scarceness and lack (Deuteronomy 8:9).

Pray the love of God to abide in the hearts of His people to help those in a time of food shortage (1 John 3:17).

Declare the Lord will uphold the just cause of the poor and justice for the needy (Psalm 140:12).

Pray for the Lord to have mercy on and heal the hungry (Psalm 6:2).

Decree and declare that the Lord is forever faithful, executing justice for the exploited and giving food to the hungry (Psalm 146:6-8).

Pray more intercessors would rise to stand in the gap for those suffering from famine; to love their enemies and pray for those who persecute them; for He makes His sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the righteous and on the unrighteous (Matthew 5: 44-45)

Pray for peace in war-torn lands where there is food insecurity, that He would enable the people to rest securely; for righteousness, justice, love and compassion to fill the nations; that the earth will respond to the grain, the new wine, and the fresh oil (Hosea 2:18-22).

Pray and ask the Lord for the rain; that the earth would be replenished and fruitful for agriculture (Zechariah 10:1).
